Everyone has they’re own love story. Premier Bride Magazine had the pleasure to sit down and
talked with Megan Smith, The bride, best friend, soulmate and the wife of NASCAR driver Regan
Smith. Megan shares the story that has laughter, heart felt moments and just romantic details that
will paint a masterpiece in everyone’s imagination.

PB: How did you and Regan meet?

My best friend’s older brother happened to be Regan’s good friend. “They were the seniors so we were
the cool freshmen going to the senior parties, and it was really cool to tag along with my best friends
older brother.”

“Since everybody knew everybody, We had mutual friends. When I was finishing my senior year of High school, and Regan had already graduated, We went on our very first date.”

PB: Where did you go on your first with Regan?

(Laughs) Our first date was actually at Outback Steak House. We don’t eat out as much, Regan is a
total health nut now, but I’m not. Yeah, that was our first date. we went to dinner and I think we
went to a movie that night.

PB: (Laughs) What do you mean you think?

Actually I had hurt my finger because I use to cheer and I was tumbling and hurt it while doing it,
so I had taken some medicine and it knocked me out so I don’t remember the movie AT ALL! (laughs)

PB: (laughs) what a funny way to have a first date! you had a romantic dinner, and then passed out during the movie. And still, you and Regan continued to date for another eight years. Now that’s love!

PB: Were there any challenges you faced while being in a relationship with someone that was a
driver for NASCAR?

I would have to say the biggest challenge I faced was the schedule. Especially when I was teaching
school, that was hard because his work week started on Wednesday and ended on Sunday, and My work week was a normal week of Monday through Friday. So his weekend was Monday and Tuesday. So that was really tough, just trying to get through our schedules. I didn’t get to travel with him as much since the team was on the road 38 weekends out of the year. But we made it! When it came to wedding planning, I didn’t have any trouble planning it since our weeks were different.

PB: Do you think things are different now, from when you were a girlfriend/fiance as too being a wife?

In this world there is, in the NASCAR world I should say, just because you feel more solid as a couple now, we are family now. Our thing with Regan is I say “ ok, we’re the team now!”

PB: How did it feel to have him pop the question at a place that has a special place in your heart?

I grew up going to Ocean Isle Beach. My grandmother has a Beach condo right on the beach, she’s had it since I was a few months old and there are pictures of me growing up at the house. My family and I absolutely love the beach. When I was younger, I would see couples walking down the beach and I would always say “ Aw, I want to do that someday when I get older.” It was nice to have my family there, since we were all there for Thanksgiving. It was actually the day after we got engaged. It was very special to me.

PB: How did he propose to you?

‘Well he woke me up at 6:30 in he morning, and I am NOT by all means a morning person. He woke
me up saying “ Hey, lets go for a walk on the beach.” I just said “what?!” I had told him to wake me up early, but not that early. He said he wanted to go get coffee, and I suggested that e can make coffee here at the house, but his response was “No, I’ll go get some down the street, I don’t want to wake anyone up.” So he left, and I went back to bed. So it was about 7:30am by the time he got back little did I know he was arranging everything on the beach.

PB: What did he set up on the beach?

Well apparently he went to Michaels a while ago and bought some “aged” paper, so it looked really old and he had typed up this letter. The letter had “To whom it may concern” and it had this story about these two people and it was about they’re lives, basically a love story. He had actually tied it up and placed it in this really old bottle that was kind of a family heirloom. It was a glass blown bottle that his mother had given to her mother. So he buried this bottle in the sand and then made a landmark because he was worried he would have forgotten where he buried it. Before that, He had actually went to get some coffee, but got a second cup so he wouldn’t have to bury the ring.

He put the box with the ring in it into the second cup and carried it while we were walking on the beach. He was ok doing that because he knows I’m not a coffee drinker but just incase he was going to say “ It was horrible gas station coffee and I would hate it.”

PB: So where he buried the bottle, you thought what?

Well growing up on the beach, sea turtles went there and laid they’re eggs, but they usually rope it off and there’s a huge fine if you are tampering with the eggs, or near the eggs. So being a nerdy science teacher, I’m saying “No!! Don’t go near or touch the eggs!” Where he buried the bottle, was where sea turtles would lay they’re eggs right on the Dunes. It was just amazing.

PB: So, how long did it take you exactly to plan your wedding?

Well, we got engaged on November 26th, 2010 and got married on November 26th, 2011. It was one of thos things where I said, “oh, I got plenty of time.” and last three or four months creep on you and I’m like “OH MY GOSH!” we really need to get going now!

PB: Well that’s great that everything worked out for you within the last couple months of planning!

PB: With everything you have gone through Megan, What advice do you have for brides that are planning they’re wedding now?

It’s not going to be perfect, you want it to be perfect, but it’s perfect in your head. There are so many little things that could go wrong like in my ceremony I remember that they were suppose to play one song, and it was on the program and they ended up playing a different song. So I’m like “OMG, they’re playing the wrong song, oh my gosh!” But realistically, no body even knew or noticed, our guest were focused on us and not the song. So yes, it’s a huge day, but the marriage is the most important part. Don’t sweat the little things!

PB: Megan, your love story is truly inspiring, and amazing. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your most important day with Premier Bride magazine! But before you go, who do you think will win the Darlington Race this year?

Oh My gosh, seriously? Regan of course!

We’re a family now, Our thing with Regan is I say we’re the team now!

Megan is now married to the #78 Furniture Row NASCAR Sprint Cup driver Regan Smith
