Choose a Unique Wedding Theme

December 15, 2015

One trend that appears to be turning into a constant in weddings is having a theme.  Long gone are the days of just picking colors or certain flowers.  Now brides and grooms are kicking the creativity up a notch and choosing themes that are trendy, reflective of their personalities, or just a fun party theme.

Themes can be used in every aspect of the wedding, starting with the “Save the Dates” and carried through to the ceremony, reception décor, bridesmaid dress, flowers, cake, menu, guest experiences or they might just use a theme for their table décor.  Since there are no rules these days in regards  to wedding décor, the possibilities are endless.

Premier Bride Magazine creates stylized fashion and décor shoots for each edition of the magazine.  In our next issue the theme was “Vintage Carnival.”  This theme encompasses fashion, table décor, catering, guest experiences, cake, ceremony music, and flowers.   The location was at Bowing Oaks Plantation in Jacksonville Florida.  This wedding venue boast indoor and outdoor ceremony and reception options with many high end options and amities.  The indoor ballroom is a large space with natural neutral finishes that can host most wedding themes.  The outdoor space also has many natural elements that enhance most wedding themes with it’s simple natural beauty.

To create a wedding theme with multiple vendors and consistency in the look of the shoot, we established a color palette that all vendors must follow.  These colors were carried through décor, cakes, fashion and the printed elements of the wedding.  Here are the colors we used for the “Vintage Carnival” theme:

One of the easiest ways to tie in a wedding theme is the table décor. For our “Vintage Carnival” shoot, we had 4 unique and different table scapes .  Each  table was designed by a team of wedding professionals that consisted of wedding coordinators & florists.

This table scape was designed by “I do Weddings by Cindy,”  she encompassed the coral table cloths with dishes and steam wear in the teals and gold accent pieces.  She had subtle hints of “Vintage Carnival” with gold elephants and vintage tickets as accent pieces.

Anything with Plants and Flowers and Coastal Coordination created our second table scape.  They used the deep reds and teals as the propionate colors in their design.   Their interpretation  of “Vintage Carnival” was incorporating vintage rock candy and sticks.

Destination Planning used many of the traditional “Vintage Carnival” elements in their design, like Ferris wheels and carousals.  They also used peanuts and popcorn as a snack and part of the table décor.  Brightly colored flowers added the pop of color to their table.

Southern Charm Events and Rose of Sharon Florist had a traditional table scape with a only one of its kind  “Vintage Carnival” twist….and bicycle on a high wire to tie in the theme.

Mathew’s Catering created a cocktail hour spread of caramel apples, deconstructed hot dogs, cotton candy martini’s, popcorn, vintage sodas and sliders.

The cake was created by Edgewood Bakery.  They used our color palette and incorporated patterns and designs seen in “Vintage Carnival” memorabilia like stripes, gold ribbons, and lacy flowers.

Guest experiences are also hot trends in weddings and can support the theme, just like our carnival theme games!

Photo Booth To Go provided the open air photo booth with the “Under the Big Top” backdrop perfect for our theme.

To tie in the theme, the musicians by Music by Pegge, dressed the part and played carnival inspired music for the ceremony and cocktail hour.

Get creative when picking out your wedding theme!  The possibilities are endless and you will have fun finding ways to incorporate your theme into all the elements of your wedding.  Convey your ideas and theme with your hired wedding professionals and get their opinions.  Remember, they are the professionals and aid you in turning your ideas into a dream wedding!
